How to prepare for your river adventure

To prepare for your River Sledding trip firstly make sure you’re booked in.  Check the start time of your trip.  That’s when you need to be at the Hall and ready to go.  There’s ample parking available outside.

No need to show up early, we run a team debrief with our guides before you arrive.  If we’re not at the hall we’re down at the river checking the water level and conditions.  There’s not much happening until the start time, take a moment to breathe in the country air and relax.

When everyone has arrived, we’ll go through the ins and outs of River Sledding and get your gear organised.  This takes 30-45mins.

We do suggest that you bring a pair of swimmers.  You can change into these when you get your wetsuit on in the hall.  A change of clothes is also highly recommended and if you wear glasses, consider swapping out for contacts.  We’ve got sunscreen, hand sanitizer and pretty much everything else you might need on hand in the hall.

Once life jackets are on, we pile into the bus, and start for Trailhead.  It can be a noisy bus full of kids, jokes and laughter.  Or a quieter one where everyone has been roped into it by a well-meaning boss.  Occasionally, we’ll see a local; Sue, George, a wallaby or the chickens.  Daniel always has a story to tell, he grew up on the river and when the conversation lulls the best tales come out.

You’re about to jump into a river in the Tasmanian bush, it will be a challenge but more than anything it will be a lot of fun.  We’ve taken 11-year-olds down the river, we’ve taken 74-year-olds down the river.  Most of them got their hair wet and fall in a few times – a few got pushed off the sled by well-meaning friends.  In the end it’s a good laugh and we’re there with you the whole way.
