Why Meander is perfect

for River Sledding.

Meander River river sledding in Northern Tasmania

It’s windy in Meander. But down on the river is sheltered from the wind. It’s beautiful and idyllic. You’ll get to see the bush from the river, untouched, a shielded paradise.

In the early mornings when we head down to set up, there are wallabies, black cockatoos, tassie devils, and the occasional snake.  These are all gone by the time we come back with the adventurers of the day, but occasionally a furry friend will make an appearance or you’ll hear the call of a native bird high in the trees.

When we get close to the river, you’ll hear it before you see it.  Don’t be thrown by the white water, they’re only 1 to 2 grade rapids.  If the water level is too high, we can’t sled it.

Take a moment to appreciate the river when you get there.  Breathe in the fresh air and look around at the scene rarely seen.  Is it what you expected?

The Meander River is perfect for river sledding because of the level of the water.  The lower-grade rapids mean you can still have a lot of fun without it being too intense.  You can also stand up at almost every point in the river.  This is perfect for those moments where you’ve come off your sled and need to reset and start again.

River Sledding is something that everyone can have a go at.  You don’t need any particular skill and most of the time you’ll surprise yourself with just how much fun you have!
